Freedom from Violence:

Preventing Violence Against Women With Disabilities

(FFV: PVAWD)

Dear Community Service Providers and Advocates:

Transforming Communities: Technical Assistance, Training and Resource Center (TC-TAT) has recently been awarded a contract by the California Department of Health Services, Epidemiology and Prevention for Injury Control Branch (CDHS/EPIC), to implement the Preventing Violence Against Women with Disabilities Training Project. We are currently seeking qualified individuals who are interested in being trained and supported to present workshops based on a new curriculum entitled, Freedom From Violence: Preventing Violence Against Women With Disabilities.

For the first phase of the project, we are looking for trainers from the Far North, Central Coast and South regions. Selected trainers will attend a mandatory one-day in person train-the-trainer program In April, 2007 in the Bay Area which will prepare them to co-lead community workshops for cross-sector audiences of disability service providers and violence prevention advocates. Training participants will receive a certificate of attendance and LCSW, MFT and/or RN CEUs (if desired). Once certified, trainers will be required and paid to conduct one or two workshops by July 1, 2007 in their own region. They will be provided ongoing technical assistance and additional support as well.

These workshops will offer LSCW, MFT and RN continuing education credits. For this reason, all individuals who apply to become a trainer must have at least two of the following:

1.  A current, valid license, registration, or certificate, free from disciplinary action, in an area related to the subject matter of this workshop;

2.  A masters or higher degree in an area related to the course matter of this workshop;

3.  Training certification or experience in teaching subject matter related to the course matter of this workshop;

4.  At least 2 years experience in an area related to the course matter of this workshop.

If you are interested in applying for this exciting opportunity, please fill out a trainer application form and return it to TC-TAT by February 16, 2007. You will be notified if your application is accepted by May 20March 2, 20067.
